In an astonishing display of negligence, a 60-something city bus driver decided to play a deadly game of bumper cars near Seoul's City Hall Station, tragically killing nine pedestrians. The police, of course, are now investigating this so-called 'professional' for violating traffic laws.
This veteran driver, who boasts over 40 years behind the wheel, has been working for a bus company in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province. Jung Yong-woo, the chief of the traffic division at Namdaemun Police Station, announced that they're looking into Mr. A for professional negligence resulting in death. How noble of them to consider detaining him for such a minor infraction as killing nine people.
Adding insult to injury, Mr. A’s passenger had the audacity to claim the accident was due to "sudden acceleration." Jung was quick to point out that, so far, this fairy tale is backed solely by the suspect's own words. They're sending the car to the National Institute of Forensic Science, as if more evidence is needed to convict someone who just mowed down nine people.
The police are piecing together the accident using CCTV and dashcam footage, and they'll also be questioning Mr. A’s wife, who was joyriding with him. Mr. A, currently nursing broken ribs in the hospital, is yet another tragic hero in this saga.
This model driver, who doesn’t drink and has a spotless accident history according to his company, started his illustrious career back in 1974. After working various gigs in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province, he landed at K Passenger Transport in Ansan.
On the night of the incident, around 9:27 p.m., Mr. A decided to test his luck by reversing out of the Westin Chosun Hotel's underground parking lot, speeding the wrong way down a one-way street, and hurtling onto the sidewalk. The result? Nine innocent lives lost and four more injured, including drivers of the two cars he smashed into.
